It was what the picture show just unexpected in real life

No fuss, no worries - we came to Newport News for a wedding weekend and needed a nice, inexpensive, safe, quiet place to rest our heads. Kimberly's room in her building was exactly what we needed and checked all of those boxes - and it's also quite central, just a 4-5 minute walk from city fountains, coffee shops, cinemas, restaurants and anything else you'd need. Her rooms are within a quick 5-10 minute drive from CNU or other things to visit in Newport News such as the Mariner's Museum as well, which was a great bonus. Will definitely look her up if we're back in town in the future!

The house was beautiful and more than what we could have asked for the trip to our alma mater's homecoming (Hampton University). We were pleased with the condition of the home, check-in was simple and the hosts were very accommodating to an early check-in for some of our guests arriving earlier than expected. We felt right at home upon arrival and settled in nicely. Oh, and the proximity to Buckroe Beach was great., although we didn't make time to visit the beach until our last morning. We are grateful to have lucked up on this property so close to our trip. We look forward to booking this property when we travel to the area again, either for homecoming or family/friend vacation. Really enjoyed the quiet and peaceful mermaid hideaway. It was pretty spacious, a real one bedroom apartment with a separate bedroom, living room, and kitchen. The only thing making it not a full kitchen was no stove. But it has a full fridge, a toaster oven, and a microwave, which was all I needed. I would definitely recommend this apartment. Good value.

The place was clean and well stocked. I couldn’t think of anything we needed to make our stay better. There was even beach gear outside for our use. Much appreciated!

This was our third stay at Clifton, so we and our 2 dogs obviously like staying there. The location is perfect for getting around Matthews as we continue to explore that part of the region. Very nice stay and we look forward to coming back. Bart and Sharon Cameron November 2024

Very clean place. Great value. Peter was easy to communicate with. The area seemed a little sketchy when we drove in. However, we had no problems while we were there. We would definitely rent this unit again.

Cute place & Thomas was super accommodating!

For a single or couple, with a dog in tow, Thomas's apartment is perfect in every way- matched description so no surprises, very easy to get to and access restaurants or walking trails, clean, cozy and many necessities provided. We try to take our sweet Ralph (who is deaf) with us a few weekends a year, and this was an ideal dog-friendly option. The yard was fenced in and easily accessible from the unit. Thomas offered lots of options in the area and was very responsive. We felt right at home and will definitely return!

Erin’s place was the getaway that we definitely needed. We spent our time enjoying the sunsets (stunning pastel colors across the water), watching movies, cooking together, and had a nice meal at a local diner, too (which was recommended in the listing)! The place was so clean, well equipped, and very homey/comfortable. Being situated right on the beach, where in the mornings you can see all of the bay from the windows in the living room and kitchen. Erin was so personable and responsive which we so appreciated. She gave all the information you could need about not just the AirBnB, but the surroundings as well. We felt right at home. They have wonderful neighbors who we met on the beach one of the evenings. Everyone was just so friendly. They were enjoying a beach fire and we talked for a while about how amazing the area is. We have already decided we absolutely will be staying here again! This is the best kept secret quiet beach hideaway! My partner and I LOVED it!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Rick and Christi's Airbnb. The location is perfect for anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful getaway, with direct access to the beautiful sandy beaches of Chesapeake Bay. Whether you’re into water activities, fishing, or just taking quiet walks around the serene neighborhood, this place has it all. One thing to note is that this spot is not for those seeking nearby restaurants or bars because there aren’t any in the vicinity—and that’s exactly what makes it so special. It’s a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. Our family, including my wife and 14-year-old child, thoroughly enjoyed our time here. But what truly sets this place apart is the warm and friendly hospitality from Christi. She went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. A lovely touch was the fresh jalapeño pepper she gave us, which we’re still using in our meals. Thank you, Christi and Rick, for making our vacation memorable.

My sister and I had a very restful time here. The place was spacious, with beautiful outdoor views. We were provided with everything we might need and more. I wish we had had more people with us to enjoy the many options available here for relaxing; sitting outside, watching movies, and enjoying evenings by the fireplace. Anne was very gracious and informative. We certainly felt right at home. I would recommend this to anyone who was visiting the area and wanted a secluded and beautiful space to share.

We enjoyed our stay at Ricky’s and felt right at home - safe and comfortable - while there. There are plenty of walkable eating & drinking options, as well as historic landmarks to enjoy. Pro tip: when trying to find the street you turn on to get to the rear alley, look for the man reading a newspaper on the corner bench. He will always be there! (And the alley is right behind the first building on the right. It’s hard to see until your are right up on it, but Ricky’s photo was helpful.) Parking in the alley can be tight at times, but we always managed, even in a Jeep Unlimited. The indoor space was comfy and bright. The only sounds we heard were the music from the shop next door, which was muted and non-offensive, and a bit of muted car sounds. Our only issue - and this would likely not happen to others - was that our beagle was freaked out by the open metal work on the stairs. We had to carry her up and down. But she loved the place, otherwise! Would def stay again, sans dog.

Salty Sisters is a wonderful place to stay! The views are lovely and the skylight in the kitchen is awesome giving lots of natural light in the space. I worked here for 2 days during a snow storm and all was quiet and beautiful. The studio is large and has everything you need for you and your fury friends, including a private fenced backyard. Rebecca was proactive and responsive and allowed me to check in early due to the arriving storm system. I loved being here in the snow and overlooking the snowy bay. Also, the studio has gone through a bit of a renovation since the photos were taken and looks even better. This is a great place and I will definitely return and recommend.

We loved the artist apartment! The back porch/balcony was our favorite. Such an incredible view and perfectly laid out. The kitchen was well stocked with all cooking needs. The beds were comfy and linens were clean and lovely. We would love to come back and stay! Robert and Julie were wonderful hosts- they were very responsive and took great care of us! Will definitely be back!
