Wow! If you want to be right there in "it" in Otavalo, Santiago's is the place for you. The apt is right there just blocks away from the famous and famously fun Otavalo Market - except on Saturdays... Because on Saturdays the Market spills right on the street the apt sits. Early Saturday morning beginning around 5:30 from the deck I watched as the vendors worked to put up their stalls and organize their wares. You literally walk out of the apt, turn right and BOOM - you're in THE MARKET! The apt is nestled within the city skyline fully surrounded by the grand mountains of Ecuador-Cotacachi, Yanaurcu, Imbabura, and many more. I've seen reviews of it being noisy-yep, its just like living in a city. Its full of LIFE! From the apt, I hiked to Condor Park, Peguche Waterfall, Agato to learn about the Kichwan way of life and explored all the cultural richness within and around Otavalo. Sr Edwardo (papa de Santiago) is WONDERFUL (a BFF kind of guy) was immediately helpful with any needs.

My husband and I spent 2 weeks in Miryan's cabin. We loved it, so close to the center of the city yet one feels like one is in the country. Miryan was an amazing host. She brought us something almost every morning: eggs from her chickens, fruit or avocado from her trees, home made breads and freshly squeezed juices. My husband and I enjoyed walking through the neighborhood, meeting new people and buying produce and the many family owned stands. The house is rustic, this is not the Ritz but if you want to truly experience Ecuadorian culture, this is the place. Miryan has three dogs that came by often to say hello. If you are afraid of dogs or just don't care for them, this is not a place for you. For us, it was a perfect 2 weeks.

We enjoyed our stay at Ushaloma. It was an incredibly sight! We planned to stay there a night and then go on an early hike but then cancelled the hike in order to enjoy the view. We highly recommend the place. We also recommend that you bring the food you want for the night and breakfast there because once you are there, you’re going to want to stay and enjoy the view and not go back down till the next day. Absolutely stunning house and view. Friendly people who showed us everything we needed to know. One helpful hint: Google maps will direct you through a muddy road that is impossible to get up. Make sure you are taking Via a Lagunas Mojanda because it is paved. We took this road up without a 4x4 and no problem. Steep but manageable.

Fue una experiencia maravillosa! La casa tiene una hermosa vista de Otavalo y lugares para sentarse y disfrutarla en la terraza con tranquilidad. La cama es cómoda y la cocina está equipada. Todo estaba ordenado y limpio. La anfitriona Samia y su familia fueron muy amable y nos ofreció comida de su huerto la primera noche, ya que era demasiado tarde para ir al pueblo. Ella y su familia también estuvieron muy disponibles y nos ayudaron a resolver cualquier problema que surgiera. Nos sentimos muy cómodos y fue una experiencia tranquila y muy agradable. Si tengo la oportunidad, me encantaría volver!

El lugar es increíble, de verdad de ensueño!! Todo estuvo muy limpio y en orden. Y la amabilidad y hospitalidad de María es única. 100% recomendado. Sin duda alguna volveremos.

Apartment is located in centre of town across from Parque de Matriz, the church and close by the municipal offices. We arrived by bus, Luis was across the road and waved us over. What a relief after a long journey by bus! We will stay with Luis and family again. Thanks Luis.
