While hiking on the Kumano Kodo, we had one of our best stays at Yuki's house. The beds are comfortable, the living space is warm and spacious and the kitchen has everything you need. You have the whole place to yourself, which was a nice change for us. Communication was also great. We ended our hike at the delicious ramen shop "Chicken Soba Shimojibashi" and Yuki happily picked us up from there once we were ready. She also drove us to the trailhead the next morning, saving us about 1 hour of walking. Thank you Yuki!

3家族みんなで利用させていただいたのですが、オーナーは子供にもうちのおじいとおばあにも優しく、時には楽しく接していただき、良い時間を過ごせました。 囲炉裏もあってご飯も美味しくお酒と話がすすみサイコウな夜でした。 ありがとうございました。

At Makoto's place you really just feel at home. He organizes plenty of activities like okonomiyaki party, hiking etc. that just leave you with a warm feeling. He's really involved with the local community, so we ended up playing DodgeB with kids at a school! I will remember my stay very fondly and hope to come back one day!!

Hitoshi's mountain inn is a gem. The old restored farmhouse is incredibly charming. We felt being transported back in time. For hours, we sat on the wooden veranda, staring into the amazing landscape that surrounds the house, while listening to the chirping of birds in the forest. We opted for the meal plan, and were treated by Hitoshi and Emiko to amazing local cuisine. We had a very difficult time saying good bye to this beautiful place. We hope to be able to return some time soon.

This spacious and charming house is conveniently located within a 15-minute drive from the Shigakogen ski resort. The kitchen is well-equipped with all the necessary appliances, and there’s a comfy dining area where you can enjoy a shabu-shabu dinner with ease. Fresh ingredients can be sourced from a nearby supermarket, which is just a 15-minute drive away.

Our stay was incredible. (1) Regarding the hatago itself: in cleanliness, amenities, and attention to detail it is better than half the hotels in Tokyo (e.g., warmed beds, washer and drier, exceptional bathtub, kitchen appliances, high quality speaker, lighting control system). The house is beautifully designed and its system of screen doors provide a beautiful flow of space (e.g., a lovely front corridor drenched in sunlight to sit and read with a mountain view). (2) Lee was a superb host - friendly, so knowledgeable about nature in the area, really helpful. The dinners and breakfast were delicious, inventive, and full of local ingredients. It was so wonderful to interact with the chickens and goats! (3) Regarding the surrounds - perfect! A scenic river right beside, rolling mountain views, Ryujin onsen close by. Overall, 100% recommend and definitely returning again.

Hiro scored 10/10 as a host. He was communicative, friendly, and helpful beyond expectation. I don't imagine our holiday to Japan would have been close to the experience we had without Hiro as a host. He picked us up from the station, provided travel to many local destinations, and provided fantastic suggestions for things to do in the area and beyond. He was a wealth of information about Japanese culture and showed genuine interest in ensuring our experience in Azumino was meaningful and memorable. The guest house was lovely, in a quiet location but walkable access to nearby cafes, and an onsen! One thing I suggest is to hire a car in this area as it is a rural area, and taxis to the station and shopping areas can be quite expensive. Without Hiro to the rescue we would have been a bit stuck. We caught a train and free shuttle bus to the nearest ski resorts which were amazing. If you are looking to experience Japanese life beyond the bustle of Tokyo, a stay here is a must!

Satomi-san is such a kind and hospitable host and I enjoyed my stay in her house. My timing of the seasons/weather were off though, so I would advise to stay during late spring as opposed to early. The location is not the most convenient if you want to visit the city and don't drive, but Satomi-san was kind enough to provide transportation to and from the airport and from there you can take a 30-minute shuttle to Okayama station. The neighborhood is very quiet and tranquil and I imagine during the late spring it is very pleasant to walk through. I think my favorite part of my stay here though was just hearing Satomi-san talk about the farm she runs and her day-to-day life during different times of the year. I think as long as you come into this knowing what to expect you will enjoy your stay.

This is our second time staying with Tomo and once again we had an excellent experience! We utilized this location for a weekend in Nikko. Tomo provided many local recommendations and that made our time even better. I highly recommend checking this place out!

Lianne is a super friendly and responsive host. The place is cozy as your own home with the great pellet stove.

The place is very conducive and suitable for large families or groups. The surroundings are very quiet after daylight hours but the house has a terrific view of Mount Fuji. You can literally see Mount Fuji from the bedrooms. The host is also a responsive and friendly person. Very accommodative as well. I will return to stay at this accommodation if I am back again.
