Hytta House is a peaceful retreat nestled in Maine's coastal forest, perfectly positioned between Acadia National Park and the scenic Schoodic Peninsula. This cozy home served as an ideal basecamp for exploring both the popular Bar Harbor area and the quieter, hidden gems of downeast Maine. The property's serene setting (complete with backyard deer sightings!) and proximity to local restaurants, secluded beaches, and spectacular views made for an true Maine experience away from the tourist crowds. While Bar Harbor's charm is undeniable and worth visiting, staying at Hytta House allowed us to experience Maine's true magic in its less-traveled destinations - from quaint local eateries to hidden coastal viewpoints that reward the extra effort to reach them. The relaxing atmosphere was perfect for unwinding after days of adventure, especially with the gorgeous Schoodic Peninsula sunsets just minutes away. I can't wait to return here again!

Our family had a wonderful stay at Mary Ann’s place. Her place is very clean, and she thought of everything from dog quilts to all we needed for cooking in the kitchen. There was a small mishap with heating and Mary Ann was very responsive and took care of our family. We had a wonderful stay. Thank you Mary Ann!

We two [married (to each other !) since 1968 ] 78-ers thoroughly enjoyed our comfortable 9 -day stay in mid-September at Doug's and Gail's charming rental home in Lubec. All 9 days were sunny! We wouldn't hesitate to return. Our favorite restaurant for lunch /dinner is Fisherman's Wharf and the fish and chips at HD & Sons Seafood comes highly recommended. We had tasty lunch twice at the Breakwater Cafe downtown on Water St. You may find Monica's Chocolates a fun stop. We scored a generous, delish batch of blueberry muffins from Gail for our stay of more than a week. Thank you, Gail! The Keurig and big supply of Arabica pods was a giant winner with our habitual coffee drinker.

The house was perfect for our family. It was within walking distance to “Dinner” a terrific restaurant and centrally located for our Acadia hike exploring. Pete and Jen were very responsive and helpful.

Aaron's place was fantastic for our party of 6 (my partner and me, our kids, her parents). The house was located perfectly on the North end of Mt. Desert Island by Hadley Point Beach (where we were lucky to catch both a meteor shower and the Northern Lights.) While the lower level had a separate entrance, the kids appreciated the additional privacy/area away from adults. The entire house was clean and the beds were very comfortable. All of the amenities (well stocked kitchen, two bathrooms, washer/dryer, patio) were much appreciated. We'd definitely stay again when visiting Acadia.

We stayed at Sabrina's place for 2 nights while visiting Acadia. The property is very private and quiet. it had a view of the cove right behind the house. We enjoyed going out there to see the sunrise. The house is very clean and organized. It had everything we needed for out stay. I would recommend this if your looking for a place away from the crowds of Acadia National Park.

This place is so great. It is exactly like the photos, but I think even despite that the listing doesn't quite capture how huge this house is. It seems pretty well insulated, also, so despite us having a decent sized group, it never felt crowded or loud. There's so many nooks and crannies to tuck away in. Also, this is an old house with old house charm, Cale really preempts a lot of questions with super helpful signage throughout the house. Not sure which of the six knobs you need to turn on the shower? They already thought of that and have put helpful guidance on the wall. We cooked for 8 people in the kitchen and found it well stocked – they even have a crock pot. Overall, this was exactly what our group was looking for.

We booked this space for my parents from South Africa and they had a delightful stay at Eastport. The hospitality from our host,Janet, enhanced our experience. She went out of her way to make us feel at home and we could not wish for a more attentative host. The unit was pristine clean and beautiful and we enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. Janet- thank you for taking care of us in the way you did.

The property was perfect for our Team who was in town for a tournament. Host was responsive and very helpful. Would recommend for any group of any kind.

Three girlfriends and I stayed at Hillside for a week. The setting and location were absolutely beautiful. It was so quiet and peaceful and I loved walking the trail. The house was roomy and comfortable. We highly recommend!!

We absolutely enjoyed our stay! We came up for a friend’s wedding and loved the area so much we are already talking about coming back next year. Cabin was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. View was fantastic. We will definitely be back!

This lovely apartment directly overlooking the park in downtown Bar Harbor was the perfect place for our family. With grandparents, parents, two small children, and a chihuahua, we had room to spread out, sleep comfortably, walk to the beach and the park, shop, and eat wonderful food and ice cream. I would want others to know that the stairs up to the apartment are steep, a tiny bit tricky for the senior with bad knees and the toddlers with short legs. The apartment has a Smart TV, which wasn't really watchable for us. If they had cable it would have been just perfect! Overall, this place was in a dream location and afforded all of us a chance to relax and enjoy the gorgeous fall weekend in Maine.

I recently stayed with my family at this incredible Airbnb that exceeded all my expectations. This property offered a hot tub, a pool table, and a level of privacy and tranquility that made for a truly relaxing getaway. One of the highlights of our stay was being able to watch the northern lights from the hot tub – it was absolutely magical. We spent a week in Acadia, and the location was perfect, just 15-20 minutes from Bar Harbor or the nearest town. The hosts were very responsive, and the place was fantastic for families, being both kid and pet friendly. It was a week filled with unforgettable moments, and I can't recommend this place enough!

My family had a great time staying here. Very quiet and private and warm during winter storms. Host was quick to plow the snow in the driveway. The ride into town is about 20 minutes and there's a lot of wildlife on the way. We found a lot of antiques at the stores and malls around town. The beds were the most comfortable beds I ever slept in. The sectional couch was very comfortable. We would definitely stay again.

Great scenic views and a peaceful place to stay near Acadia. We stayed a few days during winter and the snow covered trees and pond nearby were a great setting to relax after a day hiking in Acadia National Park. The fenced yard was great for our kids and dogs. Peter was quick to answer any questions we had and even had some great recommendations for things we could do around town.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The house was very clean and nicely decorated. Sitting on the deck off the back looking at the beautiful setting was very peaceful and tranquil.

"From my daughter: This is our 3rd trip to Acadia National Park, but the first time at this Air B&b. Originally it was supposed to be for 5 of us, but 3 couldn't make it, so it ended up just being my husband and I. The Air B&b is in a remote enough area that it is nice and peaceful, but still an easy 20-30 minute drive to almost anywhere on Mt. desert island. The house has so many thoughtful touches, like an area outside for a campfire, supplies for smores, basic seasoning and condiments, all the light switches labeled (so thankful for that!), etc. We did a grocery run our first day and came back to the house for almost all our meals. This was a cozy place and we'd recommend to anyone visiting Mt. Desert Island and would return here again if we come back in the future."

We had a lovely time at Krista and Joe’s place. Warm, welcoming, and easy to get to- it was a great hub for a quick family winter weekend getaway to Acadia and MDI. We loved the fact it was dog friendly so we could have our pup join us as well! The house was super clean, comfortable, and convenient on the quietside of MDI. We’d definitely look to book again when we head back! Thank you for being our home away from home!

It was a nice location and the place was as described. The dock was nice, but the stairs getting down is through the driveway of another house. It was a great spot to come back to after a day exploring Acadia.

Great location and property. Easy to get to all parts of the island.

John's place is homey and comfortable. Sunshine coming through the windows into the roomy kitchen and dining room was a nice thing. Very responsive to inquiries. We would recommend John's place to anyone spending some time around Acadia NP.
