My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay at The Pwani House! Lamu is such a unique place and we got to experience it all with the help of the host and the house manager, Michael. We were always able to get boat rides set up, answered all of our questions, and made us feel comfortable and right at home. It is a great location to experience both Lamu Town and Shela Beach. Definitely worth the value! Highly recommend Pwani House!

The house is a great place if you want to be away from noise and distraction. A little paradise :) it‘s around 10 min to walk to the beach (with kids of course it can take longer… 🙈) but if you are lazy you can ask bodabodas (motobikes) to pick you. The chef was amazing, really good food! So no need to go to any restaurant in Lamu town or Shela :) From the beach it is just a 5 min boat ride to Shela. We felt very safe and would always come back, asante sana!

Super idyllic place! Definitely best location to be and relax. Staff is extremely kind and there are lots of nice activities (movie night, live music). Loved it a lot!

We had a great stay! The location of the house is excellent, and Millicent was incredibly helpful throughout our visit. George and the staff at the house were warm, welcoming, and cooked delicious meals. Overall, a great experience!

Spent a week here during a yoga festival and the location was perfect for getting to all the different venues. The rooms are very simple but it was nice to have a shared community area with a fridge and the beds were made each day which was unexpected.

I had a wonderful stay at the Kizingo Eco Lodge, I was completely thrilled and can really recommend it! The staff was very warm and helpful. The lodge is located at the end of the 12km long beach and is surrounded by dunes. The beach is very beautiful, quiet and you can swim there even at low tide. The restaurant and cabanas are all unique and beautiful, full of attention to detail and everything is locally made. Night Sky was very airy, large and had lots of pretty niches to linger in. The bathroom was also very large and beautiful. The food was excellent and the cook surprised me with delicious, creative vegan meals. Nicola built the lodge so consciously and sustainably, there were wonderful, locally produced natural care products in the bathroom. The lodge can be either reached by boat or by motorbike from Shela along the beach in 15min (KSH 1000 only one way), so that it's easy to go there just for the day, have a wonderful meal and cool drinks at the beach underneath the shade.

I spent a week at Ras Firdaws with 6 of my friends to celebrate my 50th birthday, and I couldn’t have chosen a more perfect villa and location. The Villa is so spacious, all rooms have en suite bathrooms and there are plenty of balconies and various areas to relax and chill. There is a rooftop terrace, perfect for sundowners- we even had a live music performance there on the evening of my birthday! Being right on the water it was conveniently located for water taxi/Dhow pick ups and drop offs. And for taking a dip in the bay to cool down. The villa comes with a wonderful team of friendly staff who shopped, cooked, cleaned and took care of all our needs with a smile. The owners/hosts were extremely helpful in providing us with any assistance or information we needed. All in all we had the most blissful holiday and have all fallen in love with magical Lamu.

Furaha House is a wonderful place, and the location is absolutely perfect for a beautiful stay in Lamu! We loved how convenient it was—everything was within easy reach. Nyama was truly fantastic and made our stay seamless. He’s an incredible chef, and the lobster dinner he prepared was the best my parents have ever had! He was kind, attentive, and made us feel right at home. Regarding the current construction, I had asked Donatella about it beforehand, and it was mostly ok. It is very, very close to the house and does impact the view shown in the photos. You can almost high-five the workers while having breakfast. Also, because the bathroom/shower windows aren’t covered, there’s little privacy from the construction site. One small safety concern we encountered was small rocks and pebbles falling from the site while we were leaving the house - just something to be aware of. Overall, we had a wonderful stay! Donatella was incredibly responsive, and everything went smoothly.

Feisal's place was amazing. The house sits on its own plot on Manda Island, just a quick boat ride from Shela and Lamu Town. We had a family of 5 adults, 2 kids, a toddler and 2 infants. There was more than enough space with a balcony on each floor and 3 bedrooms. The sea breeze was incredible and the pool did not disappoint. There is a long dock to go to the boat and as the level of the tide varied each day we enjoyed swimming in the sea some days and beachtime on others. Amina the housekeeper and her daughters kept the place clean and helped us with anything we needed. We hired a chef, Yousef, who cooked amazing meals and even grocery shopped for us. This allowed us to truly relax and our kids loved their time on the island..it was a true adventure for them. We visited the Takwa Ruins, shopped in Shela and ate at several local restaurants. The weather was gorgeous and when it rained it only lasted minutes. The internet speed was great both inside and outside and allowed for streaming and movie afternoons when the kids were tired. We would love to return some day!

Одна комната на нижнем этаже маленькая и в ней тесно. Несмотря на то, что море рядом, до хорошего пляжа идти минут 10.

We had a great stay! Thanks to Ivor and to Jonathan and Johnson the housekeepers. It was easy to walk to both Lamu town and Shela, or get water taxis. The pool was great and there were fantastic views from the balconies. The bathrooms and kitchen are a little bit dated but completely fine. The house is beautiful and amazing decoration. Highly recommend for an affordable option, great for exploring and relaxing.

If you want to immerse yourself in the true Lamu then this is the place for you. Stunning old house right in the centre with all the surrounding hussle and bussle of a proper Kenyan town. We were looked after like royalty. Jacky the chef cooked us delicious local meals with fish, prawns and crab caught locally. Abraham quietly catered to our every need. They were all magnificent. A quick boat taxi whisks you to Peponis for a night out or a delicious lunch on the terrace. And the beach there is spectacular. We loved every minute. Our stay in this beautiful house made a family holiday so memorable and it’s one we’ll cherish for ever. Thank you 🤩

Vielen Dank! Thank you very much. It was a very pleasant stay. The house is amazingly big with plenty of space for family time (balconies every where), and a quiet private swimming pool. There are many sea activities around, we only chose a few and decided to rest and enjoy the house.

We had the most magical time at Banana house. It has loads of activities to offer such as yoga and it helped us facilitate other activities such as woodcarving with Almasi and spa, all within 5 minutes walk. The pool was very clean, the food was great and the service was impecable.

We’ve visited Lamu six times, and this house is by far our favorite—surpassing even some of the most historic hotels. The house is impeccably decorated, with every detail thoughtfully designed by a talented interior designer. It’s clear a lot of care went into creating this space, and it made this our favorite stay in Africa to date. The amenities were fantastic—multiple fridges stocked with a wide selection of drinks (alcoholic/non), coffee stands with milk frothers, filtered water taps, and a small bites menu. These thoughtful touches really elevated the experience. The location couldn’t be better—right on the beach, we enjoyed watching the Dhows sail at sunset. Finding a house with a pool in this prime location is a real gem! The staff were exceptional—friendly, attentive, and respectful of our privacy. Francis, the chef, was wonderful, and the tablescapes every evening were stunning. Suzanne was also incredibly helpful and responsive through our stay. And of we love the dogs!

I Loved my stay at Pentley's on so much. The place is so beautiful and the house manager Suleiman was so helpful. Thank you so much Ivor for hosting us, we'll definitely be back.

Mary and the team at Mangrove house are fantastic. Amazing location with great swimming beach in front. Rooms are airy and neat with fans! The staff are lovely…and meals were amazing.

The place is incredible! Right on the beach, in a very quiet area, it's like having your own private beach. The space is really nice and if you pay extra for the cook it is completely worth it! You have amazing food for breakfast, lunch and dinner served on the terrasse. We could easily go to the Shema thanks to the captain who works with the place.

I spent 4 wonderful days in this wonderfully beautiful house, it was paradise! The house is very large and beautifully furnished, on the terrace there are beautiful lounges and deck chairs with a fantastic view of the sea and Shela in the background. The beach is very nice and quiet, the water is clear and you could swim well even at low tide. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the food was delicious. There is a boat with a captain available if you want to go on excursions. I can really recommend it, it's fantastic there, I loved and enjoyed every single moment! :-)

Absolutely one of the best places we have ever stayed. Beautiful house, amazing team, great location. We felt very lucky.

Nice apartment in the middle of town, easy to access and with a nice chilling area outside in the balcony. Only disadvantage of being in town is the noise at any hour. Nevertheless, highly recommended.
