I don't know where to start! Our visit to the Douro Valley couldn't have been better! Casa Souto was everything that we thought it would be. Both Mr. João Souto and Ms. Maria de Fatima were the absolute BEST hosts we've ever had. They went above and beyond in every conceivable way! Antonio is a great gentleman and took great care of us during our short stay. This is a really historical house built with solid stones. History happened here. Unfortunately we cannot stay for the full length of our stay because the rough stone stairs and stone walls are dangerous to our crawling baby. This property is better fitted for older kids. Antonio was gracious to give us a refund on the nights and helped us to move to a new location with late checkout (very late). He is always ready to help at any time. We are grateful with all his help.

Nuno’s place exceeded our expectations. It has a beautiful balcony with a view over the Douro river. The pool area is peaceful and breakfast provided was an added bonus. Nuno was very helpful and provided us with great recommendations for wine tasting and spots to visit. The apartment is spacious, clean and has a small kitchen which we were able to use to cook in the evenings.

Staying with Paolo was truly one of the most heartwarming experiences we’ve ever had on our travels. From the moment we arrived, he welcomed us not just as guests, but like old friends or even family. He spoiled us with delicious local wine, amazing cheese, a comforting homemade soup, and the most wonderful cake—but more than anything, he shared his warmth, kindness, and genuine care. Every detail of our stay was infused with love. Paolo went above and beyond in every way, and his hospitality made us feel deeply at home. It wasn’t just a place to sleep—it was a place to feel held and cherished. If you’re lucky enough to stay with Paolo, you’re in for something truly special. Grazie di cuore, Paolo—you are the soul of hospitality, and we’ll never forget you!

Dajas Douro Valley was perhaps more beautiful than the photos! It was the perfect place to relax between adventures in Lisbon and Porto. We especially loved spending time by the pool by day and cozying up with a bottle of wine by the fire pit by night. Alexandra and Tatiana were very welcoming. A few tips for future guests: The property is nestled in the hillside which means it is at least 20 minutes from towns/restaurants. We rented a car which was helpful for exploring nearby areas, but be prepared for many narrow, steep and winding roads! We found that Waze gave better directions (less rustic) than Google maps. We also wished we had stopped at a grocery store to stock up on some food for our villa before arriving. I also recommend booking reservations at local wineries as we didn’t have much luck just showing up (midweek at least). My husband and I would absolutely stay here again!

The view from the house is spectacular. We looked down over the Pinhão River and could also see the Douro River, boats and trains that passed by Pinhão. The house is large with two floors so there is ample room for 4 people. Henriqueta left a substantial amount of supplies for us, unlike many places that leave just enough to get you started, there was enough coffee, milk, juice, cold meats, cheese, butter, fruit and bread for our entire stay of six days and laundry soap. I would describe the furnishings as "eclectic" however, where the place truly shines is outdoors. There is a lovely tiered garden with fruit trees, flowers and herbs and it carries around outside the gate up the hill which we hiked up to visit the ruins above the house. There is an outdoor barbecue with ample charcoal and wood, which we also used as well as patio tables and chairs. Outside the entrance is a long counter with 8 chairs, perfect for your morning coffee in the sun. We were too early April for the hot tub

Tout était parfait ! La chambre et la salle de bain sont modernes propres. Le petit déjeuner est très bien aussi.

Staff was wonderful, very helpful and responsive. We had a delightful wine tasting. They set up a taxi to take us to town and told us where to have dinner. The small village was extremely charming, we had a great dinner and our taxi driver was waiting to take us back after. The room and property were top notch. the only minor issue we had and it may be our fault, is we were further away from the Douro Valley than we thought. The directions were correct, but I missed my turn into the property, it isnt much of a road and it sneaks up on you. It would be challenging to find at night. But in the end, we were extremely pleased with our experience and very glad we stayed. We would wholeheartedly recommend it!!

De passage pour un mariage au Portugal, nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre séjour. Hôte très accueillant, propreté irréprochable, hôte très serviable. Nous avons passés un très bon séjour.

Quinta da Xandica, located just outside of Valença do Douro village, was a fantastic, and unique experience. It’s rare these days to find an Airbnb hosted by a “real” (boots on the ground) host who is not only there to share local knowledge and accommodates your needs, but literally who also welcomes you in to the ACTUAL family home. It reminded me of a traditional bed and breakfast, in all of the best ways. (Including a lovely breakfast in a dining room!!!) The Quinta was home to Matilde”s great grandfather, and is shared today with her grandmother and father (three generations). It’s a working farm, and an all around charming, beautiful place. Even during our unseasonably rainy visit, the grounds and area was stunning. Practically speaking, the bed was comfortable & the water hot. Dinner made by Matilde was a reasonably priced and delicious with estate wine. We also thoroughly interaction with other guests, the chipped dog, “Bill”, and access to the surrounding area. A treasure!

Cidalia’s place was outstanding. Beautiful room, and amazing views. Gorgeous pool right above Douro. Dary Cidalia’s son was super helpful with every small request. He is a chef, and the breakfast he served was not only delicious with a huge variety, but also beautifully served. Loved everything about this place. Inês was a wonderful host, she was friendly and welcoming, ensuring our stay was comfortable from start to finish. The property is a beautiful oasis, perfect for a countryside retreat. I couldn’t recommend this place more (If I could give 6 stars, I would!)

Espaço muito bonito e de arquitectura bem integrada na paisagem. Cuidado nos pormenores e cama muito confortável. Todos os equipamentos de segurança e desinfeção preparados e de fácil acesso. As funcionárias, Bruna e Isabel, muito simpáticas e disponíveis, sempre atentas. A comunicação com a Vânia também correu muito bem e agradeço a atenção que teve. Recomendo vivamente!
