The home has been updated to include a more spacious bedroom space downstairs. We stored our luggage there and had the option to sleep downstairs or use the loft bed in the main home. The home was cozy and had all we needed for a night in the area. I loved the wonderful sounds of nature come evening and early morning. Would stay again.

Wow, I had such an incredible time at Tiapapata. Firstly, a treehouse! I enjoyed the novelty of a treehouse and all that comes with it. Secondly, the art center itself was wonderful. I love being surrounded by art and artists. There happened to be an event the day I arrived, and it's clear that it's a hub of great artists and minds. Thirdly, the hosts, family, people, and animals around were the best. We had great conversations. I felt right at home and felt the warmth of community. My short but sweet stay was very inspiring, and I look forward to returning in the future!!!!

Staying here was a magical experience, one week almost wasn’t enough. The location and space are phenomenal- having an affordable and protective place to stay in nature while being able to hear the ocean waves and frogs in the background was so calming. And there’s a great view of the stars at night and sunrise in the morning. The WiFi, hot water, and lights all work great. Everything is in close proximity to each other- the bathroom, shower and hut. I felt safe at all times and had privacy while nested away in the hosts backyard. The property is gorgeous and last but not least, this host is a genuine and down to earth person. She is kind, helpful, and knowledgeable about the area. If you are questioning whether you should book your stay here or not, do it! I made a last minute reservation that Louisa was willing to accommodate and it turned out to be a blessing. Namaste

Wonderful host with great communication and recommendations for things to do and places to eat. Very accommodating and accessible. The home is just as pictured and described. Very comfortable and in a central location, making easy drives to the road to Hanna, Southern beaches, and the Northwest side of the island. We didn’t use the pool, but it looked very nice.

Wow, what a place to stay! The views were unbelievable. You stay in a private bungalow that feels like you are in a tree house. You wake up every morning and get to look at a most amazing view of the ocean and see the sunrise. The amount of sea life we saw hanging out on the pontoon was unreal. The best thing about the place though is Tama and his family. They would give us suggestions of places to see, things todo and places to eat and every suggestion was great. When you stay here you don’t feel like a customer but part of their family. Tama and his family are the kindest people you will meet. I feel very lucky to have been able to stay at Tama’s place and experience Taha’a like I did. An unforgettable special vacation! We can’t wait for our next time here!

We couldn’t ask for a friendlier host or a more beautiful, unique, comfortable and stunningly decorated place to stay in Paia. This is the antidote to a cookie cutter big resort stay, with all the benefits of a truly local vibe and host. Will definitely stay here on our next trip to Maui! Thank you Dave!

This stay was magical! The description doesn't do justice to the wonderful home. It's decorated well, with all of the amenities needed to enjoy your stay, and SO pretty! Being able to look up at the stars while lying in bed was awesome, and the outdoor shower was both fun and new for us. This stay is north of Hilo by about 20 minutes, so it's very peaceful and idyllic. I couldn't recommend this home more.

This was our second stay at the Sugar Shack and we would come back again and again! The home and its surroundings are so peaceful and serene. We love everything about it and it has everything we need including small kitchen appliances, cutlery, plates, linens, pillows, towels, beach supplies, games, you really don't need to bring anything other than your suitcase! The location is definitely off the beaten path, so if you're looking to disconnect, this this the place for you (although there is Wi-Fi at the house). There is a small black sand beach super close by that is perfect and several grocery stores and restaurants just a short car ride away. Although we would love to keep this place as our secret, just book it, you won't be disappointed!

Have stayed on Olinda Road previously and it is still our go-to destination.

We stayed here for our honeymoon, and it was very peaceful! Reading the description of the property is essential to fully understand what kind of property it is! If you are checking in when it’s dark, it can be hard to see without flashlights. It rained a few times during our stay, so we got wet when walking from the bedroom to the kitchen or bathroom. There is a bug net behind the curtains for when you sleep at night, which helped keep the mosquitoes and flies out of our faces! It was one of the most unique air bnbs we have stayed at and would definitely recommend to those who love the outdoors! My husband and I love camping, and this felt like glamping in the rainforest, which we will cherish forever!

Exactly what was expected. Beautiful scenery and with a wonderful river/pool right nearby, plus an amazing waterfall a little ways down the river. Other than that, it is a simple cabin. Very small, not much furniture and its very easy to bust your shins on the sides of the bed. Dont expect luxury and be prepared to walk in the woods, its a bit of rough terrain but nothing terrible by any means. Overall, we would happily stay here again.

This was an amazing escape from the hustle and bustle coming here from Oahu. We arrived in the dark and rain but everything was easy to find and open up. Waking up the next day and seeing the beauty of the area was breathtaking. Everything is exactly as described and very well planned. We would definitely come back on another trip. Thank you 🙏

Eileen’s place was absolutely darling. We enjoyed the bird house with its wonderful surroundings. Everything was comfy and cozy. We listened to the rain throughout the night and in the morning the sun would shine. We came for our honeymoon and we are definitely leaving with memories. Would highly recommend her place.

If you’re looking for a 5 star resort with amenities this may not be the place for you. However, if you are looking for an eco-friendly place that is peaceful, away from the crowds, and grounding look no further. Tucked away in the mountains with an amazing ocean view, you’ll stay in this peaceful tree house. I recommend an SUV but a small car can make it up the road. Cristina was the most hospitable host and shared her knowledge and also recommendations while we stayed in her home. She was so kind and a great hostess! I would definitely go back and stay there again.

Just about perfect in every way. Firstly, Mike was so helpful in explaining everything about the house and the area and so interesting to talk to. The house itself was very comfortable, especially the bed. For the most part, the temperature and humidity of indoors added to the overall feeling of comfort. The lanai looking out on the forest was a great place to sit and listen to all the sounds. There were plenty of books and guidebooks to peruse. A nice touch was the iPad Mike had set up near the front entrance to monitor the volcanic activity at nearby Kīlauea caldera. I give the whole place the highest recommendation and hope to return some day.
