In our three week trip across the South Island of NZ this property was an absolute stand out. The design is stunning, the instant feeling of warmth and comfort . As the Danish would say it has 'Hygge' a feeling of coziness and well being as soon as you enter the space. Impeccably furnished with unique touches we immediately felt at home in the space, connected with the natural world but with all the creature comforts. We were lucky enough to be staying during clear skies and to marvel at the incredible star filled skies and see milky way from your door step was one of the highlights of our trip. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever experienced, this coupled with the silence and lack of light pollution meant I had one of the best night sleeps of my life! Bravo to Andrew in creating an incredible eco conscious property with a warm beating heart!

Hands down, the BEST airbnb we have ever stayed at!!! Liz & Garry were so thoughtful with this place - from the welcome platter, to providing robes/extra towels/blankets, very detailed instructions, the beautiful design, and the awesome amenities!! We spent countless hours outside looking at the stars. It was the best night we could have asked for and we cannot wait to get back to NZ to stay here again! Only regret is not staying more than one night! Thank you Liz & Garry!

This was a beautiful cottage. Plenty to see and do in surrounding areas. Everything that we needed inside and out. Easy access to mount cook which was stunning. Host was extremely helpful and inside the cottage was information for everything around us. The cottage was well thought out and clean throughout. Washing machine was a bonus. Would highly recommend staying at this place as perfect for what we needed. Thankyou

wonderful location. walkable to town and supermarket but yet I'm a private area. witnessed a beautiful sunset first day, kitchen was fully functional and we cooked every day, at least twice a day.

The pictures of the listing do not do it justice! It was the perfect place to return to after hiking. The host helped us set up the wood fire for the hot tub and showed us all the little touches around the property. We bathed under a clear sky with a bright moon and many stars. The home was beautiful and full of indoor plants that are thriving. The outdoor patio was cute and cozy. They also baked us bread and it was delicious! Best way to describe how I feel about the Airbnb is that I could definitely live there!

Mackenzie Mountain Retreat in Ashwick Flat is a lovely place to stay. Close to Fairlie, it’s in a great location to drive to Lake Tekapo, Lake Pukaki and Mount Cook in one direction and Geraldine, Rakaia Gorge and Timaru in the other. With high ceilings, it feels very spacious and is elegantly and comfortably furnished with all the amenities we needed for a great stay. David is a friendly and responsive host and the visits from the goats, sheep, chicken and lovely dogs, Wilbur and Bonnie were great fun and very welcome. A lovely home from home!

My family and I stayed here for a day to visit Mt Cook and met Zelda as we arrived at her place. She was super friendly and helped us to smoothly check in. We've had a lovely stay here and particularly enjoyed the large backyard, which is perfect for stargazing at night.
