I was going to spend an extended period in Matagalpa so I spent a week visiting all the places listed on AirBnB in person. Norvin's place is by far the best. The room is separated from the main living area and there is an extra sink, stove, and refrigerator to use so it's basically a whole apartment. It does face the street though and can be quite noisy as I don't believe people there believe in using mufflers. I made use of a white-noise machine. The location is in the middle of town and the entirety of Matagalpa can be traversed by foot in about 20 minutes. There are plenty of places to eat close by. A plate of food can be had for under 3 dollars at most of them. Breakfast and answers to questions are free. Norvin speaks some English which makes him one of probably 3 people in the whole town that does. There's hot water. The importance of this can't be overstated. Hot water is rare enough in Central America and that's normally no big deal but the water in the highlands areas is substantially colder than it is in, say, Managua. I stayed at another, comparably priced, AirBnB place my first week while I shopped for a long-term location. That place not only didn't have hot water but the water broke entirely and I was instructed on how to bathe out of a trashcan full of water with a little bucket. I was happy when Norvin told me I could move in early. Norvin is a professional baker. So, if you enjoy amazing baked goods and deserts, expect to get fatter during your stay. The balcony is perfect for a couple of people to hang out on and have a beer and a cigar from Esteli while watching the people do their thing. In summary, you'll get hot water, wifi, breakfast, a great location, fantastic hosts, an apartment-type living situation, laundry service, and a great location. Trust that I already did all the shopping around for you and book this place. Please tell everyone Nathan says 'hi' and give Valente a hug for me. I'm serious, please do that for me and enjoy your time in Matagalpa. It's a fun little town.

Easy check-in, parked my land cruiser out front both nights - no probs. Simple but functional room, sparkling clean. There was coffee in the reception area early after my morning jog through the neighborhood (steep hills, great if you're a runner in training!). I enjoyed breakfast on the top floor terrace - beautiful views of the city and mountains opposite, and fresh breezy air. Muy tranquillo saturday and sunday mornings. Close to the Dario park which was festive for the holidays, and a nice restaurant a block away (Casa Blanca). A very well maintained hotel with a quiet vibe, and great friendly service. A great value, too.

Was für ein Glückstreffer! Ein wunderbares Airbnb. Es hatte alles was wir brauchten. Die Feuerstelle haben wir rege benutzt. Uns wurde Feuerholz zur Verfügung gestellt. Der Pool war eine nette Abkühlung, wenn die Sonne den schönen Ort aufwärmte. Der Ort ist perfekt um sich auszuruhen. Aber auch für die kleine Wanderlust gibts tolle Berge zum Teil sogar mit Wegen, die dir wunderbare Aussicht garantieren. Wir hatten kein Auto, aber das Dorf San Ramon ist gut zu Fuss erreichbar und wir konnten alles kaufen was wir brauchten. Danilo und seine Familie und Arbeiter sind super freundlich. Sie sind hilfsbereit und haben uns mit vielen Sachen beschenkt und fuhren uns bei unserer Abreise nach Matagalpa und halfen uns mit dem Bus. 100 % Empfehlung

We loved our stay at Carol's. The room was nice--very clean with a private bath and fluffy towels. We enjoyed the well behaved dogs and the caged birds and the beautifully arranged plants in the patio. Carol and her niece Carolina were kind and attentive. The neighborhood is residential, but there are small businesses on every street and several good restaurants in easy walking distance.

Everything was excellent! Edén is super nice and was always at the ready to help with tips and recommendations. The place is palatial....like an upscale hotel. Great views from the room and even better ones from the top viewpoint of the house. Everything is kept extremely clean, there was excellent hot water in the shower and it was real convenient having the kitchen at one's disposal. Oh, the mattress was the best I've had during my 5 week trip around Nicaragua! Super comfortable! TIPS: best coffee: Selección Nicaragüense (2 locations). Excellent Mexican food at a great price: El Taquero. Great Italian food in a beautiful space: La Vita e Bella. I highly recommend Edén's place!

Pasamos tres noches excepcionales en este Airbnb. El lugar estaba impecablemente limpio, probablemente el más limpio que hemos visitado. Maria fue increíblemente atenta, nos recibió con mucha calidez a pesar de nuestro pequeño retraso y nos dio excelentes recomendaciones sobre los alrededores. El desayuno incluido fue realmente abundante, y comimos más que suficiente cada mañana. El servicio en este aspecto también fue impecable. En resumen, un servicio perfecto, ¡el número uno! Después de haber visitado varios hoteles en Nicaragua a lo largo de los años, este es, sin duda, el mejor. ¡Gracias por esta experiencia inolvidable Maria!

We loved our stay at Finca El Socorro with Sara and Edgar. They made us feel right at home on their farm. Although there is a shared kitchen for cooking, we asked Sara to cook dinner for us each night and the meals were delicious. Each meal was US$10 and well worth it. The rooms are situated on a hill above the family home which meant we had amazing views of the mountains and a consistent cool breeze. The large porch was where we spent the bulk of our time talking, reading, playing games, and just enjoying the peace. Edgar speaks perfect English and gave us lots of information about his coffee plantation in addition to his dairy cows. We walked the property with the fellowship of Tres and Tonka, two very sweet and friendly dogs. Breakfast is included in the price and a great way to start the day. We did not have our own vehicle but Sara and Edgar helped us arrange whatever we wanted to do. The finca is 2.5km from Matagalpa on a steep hill so be prepared to walk up and down hills.

I agree with the other reviewers that Yelba offers a joyous and illuminating experience. The daily breakfast connected me to her home and community. Yelba arranged for 2 excursions that were outstanding. I highly recommend her property. Yelba exemplifies the warmth, resilience, and considerable talents of the Nicaraguan people.
